The Charlene F. Spillum Scholarship
This scholarship is in memory of Charlene F. Spillum (1951-2013). She was a devoted church member from a very young age. Charlene impacted many lives through her service to the community. Her passion for people, especially young people, helped many along their journey. Charlene believed in lifelong learning and being active in her community and her church. She was very eager to coach people to reach their dreams, helping to improve their lives through compassion and guidance.
Who is the scholarship for?
The Charlene F. Spillum Scholarship is established for young adults from The Church of the Epiphany, Tempe, Arizona who are or will be attending an accredited institution of post-secondary education. Juniors in high school up through young adults age 25 are eligible to apply.
The Scholarship is awarded by a Parish Scholarship review committee including : Diane Spillum, Connie Spillum, Kathy Hay, and Tim Bartley.
Scholarship applications will be due by May 7, 2023, with an award announcement in late May/early June.
Scholarship Criteria
The following criteria shall be considered for all Charlene F. Spillum Scholarship applicants:
1. Applicant is a member of the Church of the Epiphany, Tempe, Arizona who is or will be attending an accredited institution of post-secondary education. Applicant is a junior or senior in high school or a young adult 25 years old or younger.
2. Applicant has maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
3. Proof of acceptance to a post-secondary education institution or, for high school juniors, evidence of intention to pursue post-secondary education such as enrollment in AP/college classes or a vocational program.
Please note that all these criteria must be met and all documentation and the application must be submitted by the designated deadline.
Timeline
1. Charlene F. Spillum Scholarship applications will be available to eligible young people in early April.
2. Applications are due no later than May 7, 2023 to the attention of June Crane at Church of the Epiphany.
3. Scholarship committee reviews applications and will meet to make final recommendations by May 14.
4. Scholarship award of $1,000 will be distributed unrestricted in late May or early June.
